LifeBridge Vocational Day is an opportunity for learners on the Employability Pathway to develop transferable skills necessary for employment. We are fortunate to be able to access a range of amazing facilities that local providers and businesses have to offer.
Learners will have developed the necessary employability skills and use these transferable skills across the curriculum. They will apply core functional maths and English skills to real life situations to help gain the most from life, learning and working. Learners will feel confident and able to continue with their employment journey, moving to work placements independently.
There are four vocational options available; horticulture, grounds maintenance, catering and retail. Learners will choose one of these options to attend one day per week as part of their programme of study.
Horticulture Working on the 1/3 of an acre horticulture site at Rumworth School, we have our own allotment space where learners will grow their own produce to supply to the Rumworth Catering facility and the local community. |

Grounds Maintenance Working in conjunction with the ‘Horticulture’ team our ground maintenance learners will help to maintain the Horticulture site and external grounds of the Susan Isaacs site. They will develop skills in grass cutting, maintaining paths, excavation, ground preparation and be able to use manual tools safely. |
Catering Learners work in the industrial kitchen at Rumworth School to develop their catering skills in a safe simulated work environment. Some examples of the skills being developed are; preparing the ingredients and making meals to sell for staff lunches and supplying afternoon teas to be enjoyed by customers and the local community. All learners achieve their food hygiene certificate. |

Retail Learners work in a local charity shop to develop their customer service skills, understand the buying and selling process, money skills and health and safety. |
